Luxury Without Waste: Why My New Favorite Pieces Start as Remnants

At Curtain Maker Cornwall, we believe that beautiful things shouldn't cost the earth.
In a world of "fast homeware," there is something incredibly special about the Slow Interiors movement. For me, that starts at the cutting table. When I’m creating bespoke curtains or Roman blinds, I’m often left with stunning strips of designer fabrics—linens, velvets, and botanical prints that are simply too beautiful to discard.
The Beauty of the Remnant
These aren't just "scraps." They are high-quality offcuts from some of the UK's finest fabric houses. By saving these remnants, I’m able to create one-of-a-kind pieces that have a much smaller environmental footprint but a massive impact on your home’s aesthetic.
Sustainable Craftsmanship: The Art of Patchwork
Take this botanical bolster cushion, for example.
The Process: Instead of using a single length of new fabric, I hand-selected remnants in earthy forest greens and soft sages.
The Detail: Each strip is precision-cut and joined to create a rhythmic, patchwork pattern that highlights the different textures of the weave.
The Result: A piece of "functional art" for your bedroom that is entirely unique. You won't find another one exactly like it anywhere else in the world!
A Cornish Home with a Conscience
Whether you’re styling a seaside retreat or a cozy granite cottage, choosing sustainable, handmade soft furnishings adds a layer of soul to your space. It’s about respecting the material, honoring the tradition of sewing, and ensuring that nothing goes to waste.
Quality over quantity. Always."
